Replacement Tags????????????????????
« on: September 21, 2011, 10:18:38 am »
I have 8 lambs all intended for slaughter next month at 7 months old, one has lost its tag, it was tagged at the place of birth not here.

I know I need a replacement tag but am confused,
1) do I need a red tag?
2) does it need to have its original number on or my flock number?
3)the originals are EID tags, do I need it to be EID or just visual
4) if EID (forgive me if this sounds stupid) how does the information get on there, i.e do I need to have a machine to put it on there or is that does when it is ordered?

Please help :S

Do you know the flock and individual number which was on the lost tag?  If so, you can phone Ketchums and they will replace the original with an identical tag, any colour, and I think it's free except for postage.
If you don't know the number they will send you a red replacement tag with your flock number on, so have that handy when you phone.
The whole process is automated so they know what individual numbers to allocate, and they are very helpful to newbies, so don't worry.
Whether it is EID or not depends i think on where you are - in Scotland slaughter tags are electronic, but I think that in England for slaughter below 12 months they are not.  But someone on here from England will know, or Ketchums themselves will keep you right.

Thanks for the replies, BenBhoy, I know they only need one, and I am guessing that just because they came with EID that it does not have to be replaced with EID just a visual?

Fleecewife, I had a look at the site and thanks for that, I had a look at a few others also, as I have Dalton tags in the others and need to put a couple back in.

I think I have it sorted now, I need either a red replacement tag or a replica tag, can be either EID or not depending on preference and can either have the original flock number or mine!! Let me know if I have got that wrong :)

I see you are in England, so non-EID is ok

red tag if you dont know original number (and therefore put your number on)

any other colour (not red yellow or black) if you do know the original number.
