prices for sheep nd fleeces
« on: September 06, 2011, 10:06:05 am »
Hi - heard on the news this morning that the price for sheep and fleeces is reportedly going up.  If this is true good news for you sheep keepers in the UK.  Here in France the price is a bit better than in the UK but not much.  We are worried this year that we might not have enough hay for the winter - the price of hay and straw has rocketed, as has the price of feedstuffs, over here because of the very dry conditions especially in the SW where we are.  We are hoping for a reasonable winter for our animals but who knows - we do have a couple of big barns to house some of them if the weather is bad, but not all.  We must all hope for the best.

Prices are up but very slightly. the problem is the costs are up quite significantly!

We are anticipating a LONG winter this year autumn is already here with the grass going into winter mode already thank god... the wet lush grass has been hell on the sheeps feet and the resultant skitters. as for a bad winter? there aren't so many berries around but plenty of fruit so maybe a few bad patches in the next few months.... but then thats a normal winter
