Bl--dy fed up with Oakley sunglasses advertising
« on: May 22, 2011, 08:49:32 am »
Does anyone else find these sort of postings extremely irritating.  If the poster of all those Oakley sunglass threads should read this I would like them to know that whatever brand of sunglasses I next buy it wont be oakley, their postings have really annoyed me.

Even if their blanket coverage did pay off, surely a smallholders site is hardly the place for guchi handbags or jimmy choo shoe ads.

Rant over.

To add to the above, I think Dan does a great job of keeping the site clear of them.   :D

Although - I'm afraid to say but I always get Oakley prescription sunglasses.

They are the best.

(Sour grapes cos I couldnt afford them and anyway I always have my daughter's last years designer cast offs) But after the latest crop of unsolicited postings for that particularl brand, I would not buy them if I could.  (Which is only going to happen if one of the kids wins the lottery).

These posts have nothing to do with getting members on here to follow the links or buy sunglasses.  :o

It's all about getting the links seen and indexed by Google, which over time will increase their ranking for terms like 'Oakley sunglasses'. The theory is that the more links you have to your site (wherever they are from), the better your site will perform in the search engines.

We've just about eliminated the automated posting of these links - most of what you see on TAS will be posted by real people, mostly in India and the far east, who are employed to place links on forums, in blog comments and other sites. It's become a fact of life on the web, a bit like spam email.

Please use the 'Report to moderator' link if you see something that looks dodgy - we get an email and will check it out, and clean up.  :farmer:

So are Oakley et al paying some poor sod to spam forums then, on their behalf?  Methinks it's somewhat backfiring, reading the comments above!!

No, it'll be a small retailer or affiliate who makes money selling Oakleys. Being #2 on Google for 'oakley sunglasses' will be worth mucho £££ to them.
