My first year here I grew tomatoes outside - probably Gardeners Delight but it's a bit long ago for my poor memory. They grew beautifully, lovely strong plants, heavy healthy crop, but they never ripened before they were struck down by frosts. I have never tried again. However, if you could protect them from the wind with a tall frame on three sides, perhaps lined with foil at the back to reflect the sun back onto the plants, you could have a chance. Another option would be to grow very small cherry types which ripen earlier than full sized fruits
