Thanks Calum.  To email, just click on the envelope icon to the left of this message , underneath my Hebridean tup photo, which will open an email for me, or you can take the address from it.
I too am hoping for a longer lens for Christmas for my Nikon - or rather in the January sales  ;D  I like the idea of taking photos in every season for an album.  I think 'palacerigg' has access to some photos too, which were taken last year.  If you look at my website (which has just come back after 3 days of being crashed), you will see the two types of pics we need - ones which can be cropped as long landscapes for the page tops and a lots more close-ups for each page (same provider as the Palacerigg site).

Hi - If it is ok Fleecewife can I please use this part to ask for high definition photos of some rare breeds - like for example - Borerays, Soays, Large Blacks, Gloucesters, Fell pony, Hackney--- It is for publicity for a very important event for rare breeds next year. The photos have to have permission for their use on a promotion website which I can assure you will be of great benefit to rare breeds and owners. You can send them tomy personal email - [email protected] and please send them as a file format if using hotmail.... if sent as a pic they compress them. Many thanks and best to all for next week!!!

Stuart, after the chaos of Xmas is all passed, you can come over and take all the photo's of my Large Black, Berkshires and Kune Kunes that you want.  ;D Okay, so I know Kune Kune's aren't a native breed - but the cuteness factor makes up for it !

Hi Happy Man - what are you planning?  I might be able to help with Soay pics.  Also, the multi-horned Hebs are rare although not categorised as such - only a couple of hundred around and I've got LOTS of pics of those  ;D ;D ::)  Do you need poultry too or just 4 legged?  I have Scots Greys.
It might be helpful to the Palacerigg cause to use pics of their stock, depending on just what it is you're need them for.

At last our Victory is in the Scottish Farmer - p5 of the Jan 1st 2011 edition.  There's nothing really about why they are important but at least it has a mention.  ;D

SF is weird. When I worked for RHET, they had the devil's own job to get SF to carry anything about its work.

I'm not wanting to start a whole new debate here, but do you not think the Scottish Farmer tends to disregard smallholders / hobby farmers / rare breed keepers in favour of the 'real' farmers  :-\ The large scale, commercial guys who are ruled by the supermarkets and the need to produce as cheaply as possible ? I feel (and it's only my opinion) that they view everybody else as not important. Okay, maybe we're not real farmers in terms of numbers of animals or the level of time and money involved - but I think we have a very valuable role to play in UK agriculture in terms of rare breeds and traditional farming methods. Perhaps if they were to introduce a 'smallholder' section they would realise this ?(and boost their circulation figures in the process)

Lillian, what I stated was only my opinion - what facts & figures contradict that, I'm confused  ???
Do I need to pay for an article about rare breeds in order to get them to print it  ::)
I'm a pig keeper, I'm not made of money lol!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, for all the people there are that keep pigs in Scotland - there's very little written for them  :( Unless there's a secret society that I don't know about  ;)
But I think it's high time there was (if there's not already and I just don't know about it) a Scottish pig society aimed at ALL keepers (commercial and 'hobby' alike) to try and up the profile a bit - maybe even organise a show up this end of the country  ;)
Now, where could we find a place, big enough to hold lots of people, pigs and cars with trailers AND a CPH number ? mmmmm...........I wonder  ;) ;D ;D ;D

In the current SF there's an annual questionnaire looking for your opinions and suggestions on the publication.  The drawback from my point of view is the personal details they want too - my business not theirs.  But perhaps if we all let them know we want more about smallholding they would have to listen.  While we might not have large acreages, there are lots of us - to buy copies, which is surely what they want.
I find the sneering attitude of SF to Organics to be quite offensive, and also a bit stupid, as again there are plenty of people in Scotland who farm organically - all pennies in the coffers of SF if they give them a reason the buy the mag. It comes across as a 'good old boys' publication, speaking to the  entrenched, traditional,  commercial scale farmers and drinkers.  But as we have to say - that's just MY opinion.
Still, I shouldn't be complaining as they have put in the paragraph about Palacerigg  ;D
