Replacement tag
« on: May 20, 2020, 10:56:53 am »
Hello,
One of my lambs has managed to somehow rip its EID eartag out. When replacing it, should I order it with the flock number where it was born and where I got it from, or my flock number?

Thanks,

You have two options:

1) An exact yellow replica of the tag that's been lost (not necessarily from the same tag company, but with the same flock and animal number), OR

2) Also remove the other tag, and then re-tag with red replacement tags which will have your own flock number on them.

If you go with the red tag, record in your book that the original tag was lost, and that you have re-tagged with your new number UK0[your flock number], [the new animal number from the replacement tags] etc.

Thanks Womble,
They only had one yellow EID tag as they are meat lambs, so if ok I'll just replace with a replica tag with same number.

Thanks a lot!

Aha!

I'm not so sure of my ground with this one, @abc123 , but that means it's a batch slaughter tag, and my understanding is that they don't have a unique number, just a "batch" number for the animals.

If that's right, you could possibly ask the place you bought them from for a replacement tag, as they may well have one already that's identical.

Can somebody more knowledgeable either confirm or deny this please?

Please  ,when was he born  2020 or 2019 as different rules  -- 2020 you need to buy a red slaughter tag with your flock number  and replace with this then cross reference with the original tag flock number in your holding register  or you could upgrade to a pair of red tags with your flock number and again cross reference  .

To read the chip  (individual  number ) in a slaughter tag would require a reader and iv'e never heard of anyone asking for a replica  ??    Pairs of breeding tags are easy as you can just read the individual number on the non eid one and order replica pair

It was 2020. OK I'll do that many thanks. They were all tagged in 2020 so does this mean they should all have red tags? Or is that just for replacements.

Thanks,

Red tags for sheep needing retagging that weren’t born on your holding. The red tags have your flock number on. The colour red denotes that they were not born on the holding.

Sorry, just to clarify, what do you mean by cross referencing?

Near the front of your holding register is a section record of replacement tags and for a slaughter tag  you put the old flock number in one column and the new flock number ( yours ) in the second column   etc this just shows that you have changed the tags and the gov will already have been notified that on a certain date you bought certain tags and will have a list of the numbers .  This all means that that particular lamb can be traced from holding of birth to its death
