Brrrrr!
« on: February 01, 2019, 12:17:26 pm »
It was minus 12C here first thing this morning.  We have had it colder, once.  We have about 10cm of snow lying from a few days back but no more.  After freezing fog at night, everything is covered in beautiful hoar frost in the mornings, sparkling in the sunshine  :sunshine:

How is everyone doing?  I suspect it's colder than here further north, and a whole load more snow further south and west.  I hope you are all managing to get to your livestock, but remember your own safety has to come first.

Our freezing fog has now gone along with the hoar frost that came with it.  It is thawing as colour has come back into the world but the taps are still reluctant to run outside.  The ewes and lambs have the choice of up on the yard with haylage and dry laying or out in the field with wet and cold grass.  Outside is winning at the moment.

Very unusual Cornish weather yesterday.  We had 4” of snow in about three hours.  Roads were blocked in every direction, and one of our members got stranded at the doctors’ and had to stay overnight!  Thankfully we have some decent sheds for the cattle (including the newest arrival, just two days old today )

The Fell Ponies seemed to be saying, “Oh, I remember this!”   They were glad to see me with an extra feed of hay to warm them for bedtime, but were fine in their relatively sheltered field, as were the sheep.

Typical Cornwall, it’s melting away today, thank goodness. It was so pretty, and the children (of all ages  ::)) had such fun, but it’s a lot of extra work for the livestock team, so I’m glad to see it go.  :relief:

In the West Midlands we have missed the snow and don't have the very low temperatures - around 1C today.

In our bit of Mid Wales we had a mere couple of cm of snow at the beginning of the week. It's still on the ground though as it has been a bit chilly.
Minus 8 was our coldest  morning start this week.

Just been a normal Jan/Feb week really.  10 or 15 cm of snow for the last week or so and some beautiful frosty days.  The winter has been so mild and dry up until 2 weeks ago its been incredible.

Was round at the neighbours for a BBQ yesterday lunchtime and the plates froze to the table which was entertaining.

It was minus 9C last night then warmed to minus 2C by this morning and has spent all day thawing, so time for the slush and mud.  I prefer the cold if it's dry.  Tonight it's plus 6C and raining.  No wonder we have to talk about the weather  :raining: :sunshine: :gloomy: :snowman: :sunshine:

I love the idea of your barbie plates freezing to the table oor wullie  :roflanim:   Are you going to try again today in the rain?

Sadly no, heavy snow falling and lying at 5am this morning on my way to the airport to go to work.  It will be a month before I get home again so I can safely say I would happily have another BBQ regardless of the weather if it meant not having to leave for work!

Raining all night and no ice here this morn.  Both neighbours have had their heating off this week, one was an electrical fault on the boiler the other, still off, is the compressor for the ground source heating.
