New Member - my name is Gary.



I've just signed up .... new to small holding ... my plan is to take early retirement next year and buy a small holding in scotland. SOOOOOOOO.... at present i am a sponge soaking up knowledge.

At present working as a butcher in cornwall .... and trying to learn everything I can in time for d-day.

Welcome to the forum Gary. which part of Scotland are you looking at for your smallholding?

Maybe you could run some butchering courses for us members  :innocent:  ;D

Depending where you eventually set up (i'm in Morayshire), i for one am interested in the course :)

Potentially Im thinking of doing a freelance travelling butchery 'thing' --- aim to specialise in Lamb, Poultry and Pork as this seems more applicable to small holders .......... could either teach it or come and do the butchery for people.

That will leave me free to run the smallholding in between ........

I agree, that's a great idea.

You'd have to do the sums carefully to make sure you can make it pay, but yes, there's definitely a demand for that.

Also, f you could combine it with pregnancy scanning or shearing, you could really make a business out of it!
