Monday 20th January

Lovely day; great to see the sun.

Sadly, the washing line fell over.

Our stairs are perfectly made for corgi bums.

Tuesday 21st January

Lovely walk along Arbroath sea front with Lorna.

The ponies have access to the barn all the time but at night, when they are shut out of the field, they also have access to a wee area with some silver birch. It’s mostly their toilet (no splashing), but there’s also rubbing and lots of playing – looking at the hoofprints.

Dan and Andy P started to paint the Hub walls; cutting in done and first coat on today. The walls were a disconcerting pale yellow; they’re now “Natural Calico” which is much nicer.

Wednesday 22nd January

Dan and Andy put the second coat on The Hub walls. Looking good.

Thursday 23rd January

Dan finished off the painting, then we had a quick committee meeting. Amazing what we’ve done already but there’s lots still to do. Naturally, there’s a list.

Friday 24th January

So Storm Eowyn arrived this evening; red warnings in some parts of Scotland, but just yellow and amber here. We haven’t had much rain but it is windy. Just keeping our fingers crossed for minimal damage.

Saturday 25th January

Storm Eowyn has passed; lovely day here with a brisk breeze, making it quite cool.

The day started with baking for our SNP Branch “Grand Scottish Bake-off” for Burns Night. Dan did two loaves of bread and Chelsea buns; I make Coffee & walnut mini loaves and Ginger Nuts. Not many there, but good chat, lovely cakes and I won “Best Bake” with the Ginger Nuts. Wow!

After lunch, Dan replaced the broken clothes pole, not that I was planning to hang washing out today.

Then he started to lift, split and replant the rhubarb. It’s needed done for a couple of years, but we always seemed to miss the time window. But not this year.  We had four rhubarb plants, we now have six, with more to come. Astonishing tap root.

I moved some stuff in the byre, because a table and a freezer are going tomorrow; after that, we’ll get all the boxes of bottle to the door, ready for collection next weekend, then get the byre tidied up. Yay!

Sunday 26th January

Cold and raw this morning, turning to rain in the afternoon and evening. This is Storm “something starting with H”. What happened to F and G? The dogs got me up at 4am, so I’m pretty tired. I didn’t get back to sleep until after 5.30am, head too busy.

Dan was busy; he cut up the tree that had fallen on the fence in Sheepfold,

then found another tree down and blocking the ditch between Sheepfold and Ditch. Then he dragged the ditch. He was roasting, because he was working in chainsaw trousers.

I went shopping and did some housework. Busy week ahead.
