Elephant Garlic
Elephant Garlic is not a true garlic and is actually most closely related to the leek (with a swollen stem base).
Elephant Garlic, as the name suggests produces jumbo sized bulbs with relatively few very large cloves around four times the size of others which are milder tasting and less pungent than true garlic.
Very versatile in the kitchen use it as a vegetable sliced and grilled, or sauteed in butter or olive oil, as a flavouring for casseroles, or sliced raw in salads. The flavour is sweet and mild, unlike the more familiar kinds, giving it many more culinary uses. It is excellent for roasting or raw in salads. Alternatively, baste with olive oil, roast and the flesh becomes deliciously creamy.
