100 days of snow due this winter!
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:45:15 am »
I am in a state of shock, after looking on a website the other day at the forecast for this winter and with only a couple days snow I thought that wasn't too bad.

I've just been sent this by a friend and I'm now extremely worried! Have a look at this website... i'm hoping its not true!

Don't worry yet!  This is The Express, after all.  The red tops love scary headlines but their accuracy leaves much to be desired. Current indications seem to be that it will be similar to last year, unless the jet stream shifts, in which case it will be completely different to last year .....  Lay in a 6 week store of dry goods, plenty of bags of road salt, all the feed you'll need for your stock over the winter and keep your fingers crossed. Works for me every year!

You are rarely wrong if you ignore a long term weather forecast! Wait and see!

There are stories like that every year. Think its just an excuse to get the snow pictures out, increase newspaper sales and get people panic buying as if the worlds going to end.

What a load of baloney; never worked out why anyone would buy or give credence to any of these rags; particularly the Express and Mail. It is of course impossible to forecast accurately at that distance.

Here's the Metoffice Outlook

UK Outlook for Thursday 21 Nov 2013 to Saturday 30 Nov 2013:

Many places will have mostly dry and bright weather at first but with scattered showers, these mainly affecting coastal counties in the east and northeast. Showers will be a wintry combination of rain, sleet and snow, maybe giving locally significant snow accumulations over higher ground, and perhaps even to lower levels at times. The best of the dry weather will be most likely in central, western and northwestern Britain. Cold, with widespread overnight frosts likely and icy stretches in places. Thereafter, rather cold and more settled weather is most likely across the UK, especially in the north and west, although slightly more unsettled weather is possible in southeastern parts. There will be an ongoing risk of frost, especially in the north and west where winds will be lighter.UK

Outlook for Sunday 1 Dec 2013 to Sunday 15 Dec 2013:
Pressure to the north of the UK looks more likely than not to remain fairly high at first, suggesting more in the way of dry but cold weather, with overnight frosts likely. More unsettled conditions may continue further south and east for a time but there are indications that rainfall amounts could fall slightly below average even here. In terms of temperature, it is likely to remain on the colder side of normal but there are signs of a slight recovery nearer to normal by the middle of December.

This site also gives quite good forecasts

remember bbq summers of recent years, then this year they all predicted a washout summer :roflanim:

one thing we can't change is the weather,  especially the unpredictable uk  weather.

Just dug her out,11 days completely buried in snow, still alert, unbelievable.
