We bought another pair of Ryeland ewe lambs about a fortnight ago, and one of them had the runs after we collected her. We were advised to worm her, and we did so, and the rest of the flock with Panacur 2.5%. We've clipped away all the messed wool around her bum, but its still not very pleasant. The rest of her new flock seem ok.

The grass in this field is significantly longer and richer than the grass the new lambs were used to.


One of the Rams in a second field away from the first now also has the runs. He has had no contact with the first, and has also been wormed.

Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

Would suspect the grass...which is greening up BUT would always suspect other things, especially with bought in sheep who may have bought uninvited guests with them!
Therefore I would use a wormer with less resistance problems....If you want a white wormer then Valbazen as it does tapeworm and fluke too or try combinex which is also good and covers fluke.

We gave them all Combinex on Wednesday, and one still has a very runny back end.  How long does it usually take to work?  I've sectioned off the field so there are 6 of them eating one bit down, hopefully this will help the runny one, and help get some weight off the others.

We aren't really in a position to put the runny one inside or off grass, someone has recommended Pepto-Bismol and also bran mash.  Any other ideas?  I'm not sure what could be causing it now she has had all the wormers etc.

Bran mash may make things worse, my vet told me to use Pepto-Bismol for my German Shepherd, do not know about lambs though.  Is grass very wet as this can cause problems in all grazing animals

If its been dosed, then it is probably just the grass. Its pretty common at this time of year. You might consider clipping around the back end and down the legs abit as this will help to keep her cleaner.

My Ryelands got into next door and they have just put the paddock to grass this year. The lambs suffered bad I brought them into the home paddock that has very short grass and just fed them hay and they cleaned up quick enough. I cleaned them off but one still got strike.

If it is the grass put some hay out for them It will slow their gut down and should dry up.

Thanks guys, the Peptobismol seemed to work!  She is back to normal now and we're waiting for the rain to stop so that she can be cleaned up!
