Hello from Valechickens.co.uk
« on: September 06, 2010, 03:31:25 pm »
Hi everyone Mine names Steve and with my partner Gemma and our 3 boys we have just started a small business called valechickens.co.uk in the vale of Glamorgan.
I have kept Birds my entire life and for part of that actually had the privilege to manager a local birdfarm.Work doing my hobby!! PERFECT!
well we have only been back with chickens now for a few months but found the demand from friends and friends of friends created an opportunity to try and set up a small business from our family home.
At the moment we have 2 incubators on the go all the time and the idea was to build up the stock levels as we have the opportunity to use some land near to us to set up on a larger scale but as it goes as quick as we are hatching they are selling!!Which is heaven for our boys new cuddly chicks to hold every week!!! :) :) :)

on top of the chickens my other hobby is turning over any space i can find to try my hand at fruit and veg growing!!!
This has been my first year and have done quite well i feel, well Much better than i had expected anyway!
Have managed to get to the kitchen

potatoes
runner beans
french beans
garlic
broccoli
peppers
tomatoes
lettuce
rocket
cucumbers
Brussels sprouts
plums

didn't get
carrots
cabbage
leeks
strawberries

but next year plans for much much more, and hopefully with your advice a VERY productive kitchen

Hi and welcome, sounds ideal. Do you manage to find homes for all your cockerels without any problems?

So far yes!thank goodness
my farther in law has the small holding and is happy to keep them there. But not needed him so far as have taken some to shows and just sell them for 50p or whatever we can get and also quite afew families that have bought of us have had trios etc(it seems to be the new trendy thing to have a broody hen in the garden sat on eggs that will hatch so the kids can see).So far though we have been very lucky with not a massive amount(fingers crossed it stays that way.)
