I have a ride on mower for my sloping lawn but have found that after cutting half the lawn the mower struggles up the slope. I have just had it serviced and have been told that when the back axle oil gets hot it is too thin so the mower struggles.

Is the mower just underpowered and therefore should I be trading up to a more powerful mower or is this likely to happen with any mower that is not brand new?

How about calling the manufacturers technical department a) to confirm and b) to see if they might recommend an alternative grade of oil.

There is a slope from the bottom of the garden to the top and also from side to side

I did contact the manufacture's technical department and they gave me some things to look at, I mentioned tem to the guy who serviced it and he was already aware of the advice. He suggested the guy who had the house before me used the mower on the steeper part of the garden (I leave that section to grow wild) and thinks it may have impacted the gears. I have queried this with the manufacturer as I think it is only 4 years old and for the last 2 years I have not used it on the steeper part of the garden.

How long are these things meant to last?

Is it driven by rubber belts? I had one that used to be fine to start and gradually loose power. The belts were quite worn and as they heated up they must of got looser. They eventually snapped and when they were replaced power was much better
