How's the rain affecting you?
« on: August 26, 2010, 08:34:10 am »
here in the worcestershire/cotswold borders we are rapidly sinking!!

I am sat here avoiding milking time  ::)  and have a cold from being out in persistant rain.

banks of river avon look fit to burst and last night I drove through floody bits to deliver a soap gift basket to the pub.  Chickens seem to love it though  :D

The chickens don't seem to mind it at all ::)

My kids are pretty fed up with it though - it was fun to put on the wellies & waterproof and have a soggy play / walk , returning to mugs of hot chocolate, but even that's getting boring now!

We're off to @Bristol today with my mum (sort of science museum with interactive stuff), but I expect it will be mobbed as there's not much to do with the kids when it rains - if you do find something that doesn't cost the earth, EVERYONE is there!  ::)

We actually lit a fire last night too - it was quite chilly!

You're going to have to put newspapers down in the kitchen and bring Avocet in for milking!!  ;D

I can't imagine sunshine at the moment Cinderhills!! you lucky things!!

Have visions of Tony's face if I bring Avocet in for milking, oh classic!!  I did lead the little white one, Savannah in once to say hello to my mum and he was horrifed, especially when the door bell rang and I took the goat with me to answer it.

didn't get home until after 9 last night because of the torrential rain, went up the field but couldn't see much, I could feel I was sinking though.

This morning I went up to feed the animals and the field with my horse is badly chewed and soggy next o the gate and water, the sheep are looking rather muddy and the chickens and geese are loving it.

I am off work tomorrow so I think it is clean up time and maybe move the horse onto a bit of field that isn't so bad.

We've been stockfencing all week in the pouring rain. Just given up for today as the kids are sinking too far into the mud to be able to walk! Hubby waited til August to book time off work to do it because we thought we'd get at least a couple of sunny days. The wind was blowing so hard yesterday it was howling across the field and kept blowing my 2 year old over. Both kids have been brilliant but are very fed up.

Worse, as field is rapidly turning into a bog the piglets we had hoped to get in a few weeks time may now need to be put off til Spring. We aren't sure that they will cope through the winter in the conditions. Will have to phone the breeder later for advice. We were only on their 'reserve' list for their next batch of weaners anyway so no guarantee we would get any and hopefully they won't be cross. :-\

Hoping for some sunshine soon.... ::)

We finally had some rain, most of it was at night, however today, on the day we visited the local tip with the trailer for the first time in 8 years, today it is pouring.  No mud yet though.    :D

we milked Margo in the kitchen... it was preferable to mop after than trail around in the mud and goat poo, when she was a difficult moment!
but then, she was great on a lead, and got a good walk & munch round the garden too.
And she used to visit my father - in - law when he was too ill to go out to see the animals...

We seem to have been very lucky here, we have had some rain but not enough to cause any concern, the river is still very low compared to last year, but I am NOT complaining. not after the winter that we had.

It's miserable at my house! We sit right in the mist cloud pretty much constantly. The pigs think it's wonderful although I'm running out of non poached bits to put their trough! Ducks are having a ball, as are the dogs going off for filthy jaunts in the woods! Cat pretty much sleeps all day every day apart from screaming for food and the horses are pretty miserable and not getting anywhere near enough work as it's too dangerously foggy to ride! Eurgh!
