I don't drink caffine or alcohol, I was diagnosed a few years ago with liver problems so I have to be very careful what I do and don't eat but I always has coffee in for visitors. I drink caffine free drinks and I can't stomach tea I think that is because ny grandma (a good northern woman) thought that tea made everything better and drown me in the stuff

yes, tea is horrid, and  no problem has ever been solved by drinking it!
are you too hot at night. have a window open whatever the weather.
i am a rubbish sleeper. i try to imagine my favourite holiday, or one i would like,
then go through the whole thing in my mind. must be thinking of really
boring places as it usually sends me to sleep quickly!

Chamomile tea is good - I didn't really believe in the effect of herbal teas, but I took to drinking them at work so that I didn't have to boether with milk. I rang Dan one day and said I was so tired I could just put my head on the table and sleep. He asked what I was drinking and when I said I was on my third cup of chamomile tea, he just burst out laughing. So it DOES work!

Well all animals fed at speed, dogs walked and horse walked I forgot his reins were snapped from when I came off last weekend and the new ones are too short. Book is primed nothin like a good Pratchett just waiting for the light levels to drop and then chickens are getting shut in and bath time for me.

Have a notebook and pen or pencil beside your bed.  If you come to thinking 'I must remember to...............' don't switch the light on, just write on your notepad what it is - you may then be able to go back to sleep as the matter has been dealt with.  In the morning you won't be able to read your writing but it won't matter, whatever it is will crop up during the day anyway if it is important enough.  Things always take on gigantic proportions when it is dark and you are alone - I know that from experience. ;D

Yeah I do that, I have done that since I was young. I have had my bath ovaltine and tried to read and still wide awake. I am hoping that doing some very boring spreadsheets will knock me out now

I do a couple of Sudoku puzzles or logic puzzles - that usually tires bores me enough to make me go to sleep.  Trouble is I sometimes wake up in the early hours starving so I have to get up, make a cup of something hot and eat something - it's impossible to get back to sleep if you're hungry.

Well I have a fairly busy day tomorrow so I have to get some sleep tonight. The spreadsheets seem to be working as I am starting to get sleepy now but not enough quite yet to go to sleep

I like to listen to audio boooks when I can't get to sleep  I usually find I nodd off pretty quick then, some lavender oil on my pillow/wrists also helps.
I've also just read that taking a magnesium supplement can help you sleep.

I often have nights when I can't sleep. Before my separation I had not slept alone for years, apart from when I worked away. Took me ages to adjust. If I can't sleep, like tonight, (It's ten past 2 in the morning & I'm wide awake) I will get my laptop & sit by the window & watch the night sky as I type. Seems to work. If it's a clear night that is. No point if not cos it's pitch black.  :) :) :) Tried the tea's, the milk drinks, reading etc. None of it really worked for me. I think you tend to think about things when your alone & that don't help. You have to just be positive with things & you will be surprised how chilled you become.  8) 8) 8)

Cobra it was too dark to see out and count my sheep, but I think the spreadsheets done it and at least I'm ahead of my work for Tuesday in the corporate world :( Only thing is the dog work me at 5.30 this morning to go out as this is his normal time and I just wanted to sleep. So I am fresh for the day ahead and have a list that is 2 days work and I have to go into town sometimes as well and I hate going into town.

Big mug of hot milk does the trick for me, especially mixed 50/50 with baileys  ;D
If you dont drink tea/coffee etc try 6 fresh mint leaves in boiling hot water, a friend of mine has an egyptian interest and this was recommended when i had really bad food poisoning, but is so refreshing i quite often have a mug
