How long until chicks can be moved outdoors?
« on: August 30, 2008, 07:32:28 am »
Hi everyone, just picked up our loverly new buff orpington chicks from a local farm yesterday. They have just come off been under heat lamps and are currently making themselves at home in our house. How long should I leave them in here until I place them outside with the others? There new coup has plenty of woodshavings in to keep warm on a night.

Oh, Buff orpingtons are lovely. Lucky you.

I would start puting ours outside to live 24/7 once they are feathered at about 8 weeks. I wouldn't mix them with the laying flock until they are about 18 weeks or so, somethimes later when they start to lay themselves at 20-22 weeks.
