Ordered pigs...Worrying about collection
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:24:35 pm »
Taken the pluge and ordered two pigs! Now I just need to work out how to pick them up!

Does anyone have a trailer in the Leeds/Yorkshire area?

Also probably the wrong place to post but if anyone knows anyone who'd like to share looking after pigs I'd be glad of a bit of extra help!

Many thanks,

Voss Electric Fence

It is acceptable - if they are weaners - to pop them into a straw lined puppy crate of even a large cardboard box (although the pigs do prefer to see out)! and transport them in the back of your car (estate car preferable I guess!)

Full sized pigs - obviously - need a trailer and I think whoever transports them needs to have an animal transportation certificate.

They are 11 weeks so I'm guessing a little bigger?

you would probably still get them in the back of a car in a dog crate, thats hoe everyone who has picked weaners up from me has done it

I collected mine in a large cardboard box half filled with paper so nothing could leak out..

They are brilliant, start to train them young to sit for food, and sing to... easier to train than dogs

ENJOY  :pig:

We picked up 4 GOS weaners at 12 weeks old and they were happily transported in a large dog crate.
They are now 6 months old and for their trip to the abbatoir its going to be a proper trailer!
Enjoy

I picked up my 3 OSBs in a large dog cage, if you are using a trailor you do not need a transportation license if you are travelling up to 40 miles.

We collected our 2 saddleback weaners in the back of an estate car with a box and straw. They fell asleep within 10 minutes, keep the windows open otherwise the odour will choke you lol  ;D P.S make sure your paperwork is in order.

our first lot were very upset on the journey. driving with you head out of the window is not recommended. the second lot were perfect. there journey was a lot shorter so no time for the pong to build up.

We've used both a trailer and a dog crate to collect our middle whites and I have to say the 3 weaners seemed quite happy in the back of the landie in the crate and were quickly asleep in the hay we placed in there so no problems going down that route.
Best of luck  ;D
