Pigs and children

Hi
Getting our first pigs soon. My 6 year old son is VERY excited. He understands they are meat pigs, not pets and enjoys pork, in full knowledge of where it comes from.
However, everyone tells me that of all their animals, pigs seem to be the ones they 'bond' with most.
My son knows already what will happen to them but just wondering how other children cope when the time comes for the pigs to go.........

All my meat pigs are called Porky.  Drop in the odd comment about how those apples you're feeding him will make the pork taste really good.  Mention that when those pigs go there will be another batch along quite soon, so they're seen as part of a continuum not a "forever" pet.

We don’t tend to talk to much about the “end” while they are small and cute...as soon as they are big burly pigs that run at you for food it’s easier to talk sausages!
