white flaky skin
« on: July 07, 2010, 09:39:07 pm »
We have a tamworth sow who had her first litter a while back , but during the pregnancy her skin went white and flakey and she went mad with itch scratching against the walls till nearly all her hair fell out she looks rough now, we have treated her for mange and although the scratching has stopped she still looks bad, our vet thinks it might be a lack of vitamin A or zinc as mange is usually passed onto other animals and none of our other pigs have it even though they were running with her, no other new animals were brought onto the farm during this time so if it was mange it wasnt introduced from another animal, well not a farm one anyway, has anyone else had a similar experience?

Not having seen it cant be sure its the same, but when we had tamworths we had one who had awfully flaky skin, which we treated with emulsifying cream which worked very well.  (It definitely wasnt mange)
