Chickens not laying?
« on: August 05, 2017, 07:45:37 pm »
So we have 22 chickens who over the last week or two produced about 10 eggs between them. 12 are new (But were laying) the rest are last season's. We have checked and sprayed for red note. They look Clean around the event as well. All have been wormed  and get cider vinegar on a regular basis. They free range but we kept them in yesterday but only access a couple more eggs. Help!!

We have found that when we have bought in-lay hens, they have stopped laying for a bit after arrival.
Our hens have virtually stopped laying too, but ours are definitely past their best - quite elderly.  They are moulting, so perhaps that's it.  Are your older hens moulting?  They usually stop laying then until their new feathers come in.

You may find being moved pitches the new hens into an early moult.  Having their normal group disrupted and having to sort out a new pecking order may have the same effect on your original flock, if you're mixing the two.

My hens have really slowed down the past month and started to moult. Happy about that as they were looking really scraggy !
