A new era of governement - what a joke!

This is on the BBC news website, when will we stop these people ripping us off???

Peers with London property claimed overnight allowance

E-mail this to a friendPrintable version  Peers do not get salaries but are entitled to various allowances More than 150 peers have been claiming a £174 tax-free overnight allowance for staying in London, despite owning a property there, a report says.

The detail is published in a report on implementing changes to the Lords expenses system.

It says 326 members who replied to a survey claim the "overnight subsistence allowance".

Of those 167 own accommodation in London and 113 own their properties outright - making them mortgage-free.

None of the peers were breaking the rules, which until recently did not specify which property was a "main home".

The findings come as the government has outlined plans to pay peers a flat rate of £300 a day to attend the House of Lords.

The regime, due to take effect in October, compares with a current maximum daily limit of £334.

simple answer to that mate .. we won't !!!!  we will just let them get away with it again and again .
But they will get all 'malingerers' off the benefits system no mater what , and they will continue to raise taxes that only affect the poorer people of society ,and give the richer ones tax 'incentives ' ? ..and they will continue to cut services that the poorer people need and rely on , services that none of them ( MP's )  need   !! services that the taxes that  poorer people pay , are meant to provide ..where do the taxes go ? ... they go to pay Lords £300+ per day to go and sign their name in a book to earn their £300 and then either go home or sit and sleep , or they go to pay MP's expenses that are 'still' being paid out on top of their 'sub standard' wages .

no ... you have it all wrong George .... 'ALL' malingerers on benefits , that's any benefits , tax credits , child benefits etc etc ...they steal , thieve and commit fraud ... MP's and Lords .. 'EARN' their 'entitlements/expenses' !!! ...
But yes ..Westminster should just be fenced around with barbed wire , and called a prison ...as it is already full of thieves , fraudsters and crooks ....they just call themselves MP's and Lords !!

cheers

Every year they publish how much money it cost to keep embers of the Royal Family, do they ever produce figures that show how much, in one small year, the government, house of lords etc. costs us? I bet that would make one hellava interesting read!

It would also be interesting to know how much the main parties spent/wasted on fighting the recent election campaign? And where did they find the necessary millions when the country is fighting its very survival.

Hello James I read that it cost the British? tax payer just £0.68p each to have the Queen.I wonder how much she earns the country I mean EARNS us Not like the alleged M.P's earn. Also some of these so called Top Dogs. There are hundreds of foreign visitors come to see her and the Pomp. The total cost of keeping the Royal Family is peanuts in the Grand Scheme of things. How much is Afghanistan costing us ? For What? As far as I am aware it was never a protectorate or any thing else come to that ??? :farmer:

Perhaps it's a good job the truth is never published.

I thought they'd announced that her income was to be frozen this year.

I don't know about the pay rise but I did read that the Palace was over budget to the tune of nearly seven million pounds :farmer:
