i know there is probualy a obvious answer here, but how do ye more experienced
goat keepers treat these two things?
as said i guess i might be answering my own question here!
at the mo im treating with antiseptic spray and a little cream.
i think they have got them from the chain link fence so im going to replace it this week.
the spray im using is for human use, is this the wrong one is there a specific animal antiseptic spray
that i should be using instead?
any comments are appreciated.

i use purple spray (i think its called gentian spray) and hibi scrub to clean the wound its brilliant. u should be able to get it from a animal supply place or maybe ur vets?

ps watever you do dnt try it on yourself it hurts like hell i thought i was being clever the other week and sprayed some on my arm it kills like iodene or tcp but it did do the trick

You can get a green/blueish antibiotic spray from the vets which is good too. Vet wound powder will be available from most farm stockists too. Aloe vera cream or ointment is good too, and can help scrathes heal quicker.

Vets use hibiscrub a lot for all sorts of things ......gallons of the stuff were used recently when they were castrating my colt.  I buy it from the chemist or supermarket, as its cheaper than horsey shops or vets.

I have used plaster tar spray on both the sheep and the goats, especially when they (sheep and goat kids) knock off their horns/scabs from the disbudding. Forms a thin film on the wound, so should protect from flies.

Also Terramycin spray (thats I think Beth is referring to) is good to have, but it's over 10quid a bottle. I use it mainly for treating scald and initial footrot successfully, so unless your goats have foot problems it may be good to know of it, and get when needed.
