sleeping outside?
« on: May 22, 2010, 02:40:10 pm »
is it warm enough now for goats to be able to sleep outside, or is it still
abit early even though we have this nice weather at mo?
my girls did the other night cos we were at a b-b-q- and i was a little tipsy when we got back, past 11 o clock.
so i thought to save me and the girls from what would be a very mad experience i thought best leave them out!

mine have slept out a few nights now - they have the shed door open so they can choose.they seem much happier (I was having some stress with them re:pecking order and butting aroudn the shed)

Mine are housed in an old pigsty - the cottager type with the concrete run outside.  I shut the door to this so they can eat some hay outside in the morning - they do sleep inside though and don't wake up and stick their heads out till past 8!!!

They should be okay as long as they have access to a shelter in case it rains in the night. I have been leaving the big billy out at night now.

Hey

My GG have never been in!!   They were out in all that snow, and hate being shut in!!  We did almost loose our old lady in all the bad weather, but a vitamin injection from the vets did the trick!!!

Cain and Abel the two big boys sleep out all the time, winter and summer, with an open fronted field shelter.  During the summer they seem to prefer sitting outside at night, than in thir shelter.

All the others come in at night,  they do not seem to like being out once it goes dark.  Paddy the intact billy makes his way up to his bed once it starts to go dark

ours go in the shed at night... but the door has been left open for ages now.
as soon as the security light goes on, Cesar comes out to have a look, so we gave up trying to shut them in!!

they've chosen to be in alot today, as its cooler in the shed than out in the sun
