Sheep Shearing Aberdeenshire
« on: May 18, 2010, 08:38:26 am »
So we have the sheep - now they will need shearing - I could give it a go myself but I think they would look way better being done by someone who knows what they are doing - does anyone know of a shearer in Aberdeenshire that will do my flock (3 sheep) don't laugh. Thank you

Hi Clare

I did my three girls last year with hand shears and my back still hasn't recovered.  And my sheep are Hebrideans and therefore a smaller breed.  This year I will get them done by someone else.  Best thing to do would be to ask your local sheep farmers who does theirs.  Price is roughly £20 for 1-10 then an extra £1 per sheep after that.  I am leaving mine till June as I was advised that ewes with lambs might be put off their milk if they are sheared and then there is a cold spell.

good luck
Anna

Hi Anna
Thanks for the info - will ask about too - there's sheep next door (field) but I was told the field had been sold earlier in the year and haven't see anyone about but will keep my eye's open. Jacob's settling in well and pretty much coming up especially if I have a tub of 'crunchies'.

Itinerant shearers will want to do a batch of farms inthe area at the same time so best to ask around and make sure you're included.

Hi,

We have ouessant sheep and a lovely young smiley shearer who comes along to shear our sheep. He does small groups for other poeple, which is how we got to know him. I'll dig out his number if you're interested as we need to shear soon as well.
We're in Methlick just down the road

For future years, it is really worth looking around for a potential shearer at the beginning of the year and asking them if you can be added to their list for when they start doing their rounds.  Trying to find a good reliable shearer is quite an impossible task and so once you have found one keep hold of them!  It is very difficult to find a shearer willing to come out to very small flocks as at this time of year they are all so very busy.  Even those shearers that specialise in smaller flocks do like to have your details logged so that they can work out their routes and add you in to their workload.  Be organised earlier in the year and it will save you a hell of a lot of hassle now.

Hi all, we are a small family shearing enterprise, specialising in small flock shearing, we are based in fife, but can shear anywhere. If there are a few in the same area, then fuel charge can be shared. Please get in touch if you need us  :sheep:
