Finally, we have bought our first sheep...

After many years of raising tame lambs, we have bought our first small flock of ewes. 8 lleyn x texel shearlings, they are settling in well and will go to a poll dorset ram in early autumn for lambing late feb/early march. Or that's the current plan  ;D  The short one on the left has already been named Stumpy  :roflanim:  We are keeping a tame ewe lamb so will have 9 to lamb next spring- the ewe lamb is fit to kill now so hopefully will go to the ram as well. They have been used to a dog and not had any cake, so working on taming them up at the moment but I think they will come around sooner or later (I hope  :roflanim: )

Congratulations!   :excited:   They look great, keep us posted on how they do.  (And don't forget me at shearing time ;))

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

They look absoloutely fab!  Makes a good cross too, texel x lleyn x dorset very nice indeed!

Congratulations  :thumbsup:  Must be something in the air, I'm ending the day with five times as many sheep as I started it after a trip to the mart this morning  :)

Thanks! I'm pleased with them. I wanted something easy to lamb for their first lambing, a friend has a poll dorset available and I like that breed, some of our tame lambs are dorset mule crosses and produce a nice long lean carcass that is slightly slower growing to the big frame Texel lambs that go over fat very easily. I am excited to see what the cross brings :)
