Time between twins
« on: May 09, 2010, 09:24:13 pm »

Got a ewe lambed at around 7-7.30, no sign of afterbirth or another lamb. This ewe usually has twins, how long should I leave her before investigating further? Oh it is now 9.20

Well, if she is eating, drinking, not looking at all concerned, the lamb you have is a big one and feeding and all looks hunky dory I would not worry too much. On the other hand if she looks uncomfortable, is distressed, looks a bit preoccupied, the lamb is small and you are not sure.....keep an eye or call someone to check if not confident.
It may be she has just a single this time?

I had one ewe with 2 hours between twins, she is lazy though and doesnt really push, I didnt interfere as she seemed content enough, I was just about  to when the 2nd one appeared! another one had hers minutes apart!

... well I had one last year 4 hours apart! Got a friend over for second opinion as she seemed a bit odd and he pulled out the second lamb.  Made me a bit paranoid this year not helped by two mums continuing to nest but only having one lamb.  Spent hours up checking them just in case.
