Its the Wednesday Rant!!!!

Having very reluctantly been put on blood pressure tabs for the forseeable i spent about 10 mins semi-arguing with my doctor that i wanted 2 months supply of tablets as 1 month would end up costing me twice as much per year and if this is permanent it is going grind. Now i am not a sick person and have probably only had 5-10 prescriptions my whole life, so can be an awkward bugger when it comes to this subject!! Anyway all done and the doctor yielded and agreed two months.

Just phoned for repeat prescription and spoke to wally in Pharmacy and it was 'oh i am not sure if you can have 2 months' this leads to WP having a red mist moment and carefully explaining the contributions that i make in tax and NI and that the doctor had agreed 2 months so be a good little person and do as you are TOLD!!!

where do these people get off questioning what a doctor has put on your repeat prescription, everyone trying to be an expert!!

Rant over, breathe WP remember you are supposed to get low BP  :pig: :o

WP hello pal I'm afraid I go to see my GP very often.A little while ago his diary was full .So he said come on Wednesday at 20 past eight (Practice doesn't open until 8:30am You cannot come in we are not open until half past said the receptionist To which I replied You are to me.So she left me in the vestibule and closed the door So I went around the back where my GP was just keying in his entry code and in we went.I said its a good job you came or I would have missed the appointment. Why is it the receptionist has more say than you the senior doctor at this practice He just said I will have a word Yes so will I.It worked wonders All she could say was nobody told me.Who the devil do they think they are surely if I told her it was good enough! ??? ??? ??? :farmer:

Hmm. My sister was a receptionist and then a practice manager for a local doctor, so I know it's not all one sided. She would get folk calling for an urgent apointment for thier child, so she'd say "If you bring them now, I'll fit you in". "Oh,no" comes the reply "He's at school, it will have to be after 3.30pm"

The doctor probably hadn't told her - you could have been Jack the Ripper, so I can't blame her entirely.

If it is a regular prescription you can buy a prepayment certificate as a one off annual charge then you will get the prescriptions free for the year. Last year it cost £17 but I don't know if that has changed. You should ask your pharmacist. IN fcat if the pharmacist was any good they would have told you about this as not many people are aware of it.

Yup, that's right, but I thought it was £12 but maybe that's for a shorter period, and anyway 2 months supply of a repeat prescription is normal.  I have 4 prescriptions and I always get two months without asking.  Mind you they are free anyway as I am an OAP

Is that in England?  I think our prescriptions are cheaper here aren't they?

Q How much will a Prescription Pre-payment Certificate cost me?

A On 1st April 2010, the cost of PPCs came down to £10.00 for a four-month certificate and £28.00 for a twelve-month certificate.

Above is from the NHS website - applicable in Scotland only.
