« on: March 06, 2016, 10:10:57 pm »
Hi..
Wondered if anyone could advice me,I brought a brinsea pollyhatch today a good second hand one
All seems in good working order.. Up to temp etc..
But I'm unclear as to how much water i need to put in the wells or do I run it dry for the first 18 days??
Much appreciated anyone's thoughts..

Look under brinsea and you will find a download for instructions.
I was told where we live humidity is high enough without adding water until the last day (or 2?)

I definitely would not run anything dry this time of year, not until May or June when the humidity has gone up considerably to 40-something percent. I consistently have a 95% hatch rate and I hatched 60+ chicks last year with domestic Brinseas, but not adding water this time of year would have a very serious effect.

Do you have a good thermometer & hygrometer? The readouts on the Brinseas can be up to 2C off for temperature. I use 2 Brinseas, both with good quality thermometers and hygrometers (just bought off Amazon), and IF the temperature and humidity are correct they are brilliant.

So what are you planning on hatching?  :)

We run our polyhatches dry until 3 days before hatching date then put some water in.

I have a good digital thermometer is there and all is well,as for hygrometer no but I can soon get one and see what's happening...in the mean time might fill one of the wells or put a wet sponge down one side..
