Hi all,

Quick question:

I have three layers in a large area but I want to get some birds to raise for the table. Am I alright to have them in the same area? My friend says they should be kept separate but doesn't have a reason why!

 There has been a lot of talk about this on the forum as of late. If your layers are commercial birds then it might be likely that they were vaccinated against mareks disease in the which case they could be carriers and there is a high risk that they might pass it onto your meat birds, if they themselves have not be vaccinated. Where did you get the layers from? If they're indeed vacinated birds and the meat ones are not then it would be better to keep them seperate. Hi there, thanks for the info! I have 3 warrens at the moment and loving the amount they lay, top birds! I got them from  But I would like to raise some birds for the table as a bit of a project really. I got my birds from Hurst Farm in Sussex, I think they are vaccinated there so from what you said they could be carriers!
