New here from Yorkshire

Hello i am John from near Leeds.

I live on an old chicken farm use to keep 15000. Now just have a few chickens, kunekune pigs and shetland ponies.

Own french bulldogs, 2 borders and 2 Caucasian Ovachakras and one central asain ovachakra.

We are looking for a new place soon in the dales, if we pass for planning on our barns.

Had to google what an Overcharka was, and I thought I new dogs!  Look big and cuddly!


We have a 5 bed house in 3 acres for sale in Sutton in Craven if you're interested! (David Hill Estate Agent)

Also from Leeds here, keep pigs, sheep, cattle, cats, chickens, rabbits, a couple of dogs, and two Caucasian ovcharkas too!  ;D

Yes they are imported, MeMe is 3 years old, Jack is 8 months and Chakra is 2 and a half.

They are beautiful dogs.

Buffy I also keep COs. UK bred COs don't have their ears clipped, only imported ones. They are traditionally bred for protecting livestock from predators such as bear and wolves (hence the clipped ears), and come under the 'livestock guardian dogs' category. They don't 'gather' and 'herd' like collies etc, but are more of a protector.

More recently they've been used in prisons in Russia and Eastern Europe and have had more 'guard' traits bred into them, and less livestock traits. Sadly this means a lot of plonkers are now buying them as aggressive accessories, and will probably eventually end up with them being banned in UK.

Caucasians are hard work, and absolutely nothing like any other UK livestock/guardian dog. Definitely not a 'first dog' for someone, my bitch would eat someone who interfered with 'her' pigs for breakfast! Lots of them unfortunately now appearing in rescue centres :(

As Sophie says, over hear they are property protectors suited to farms, estates etc. Do not accept strangers protect what they know. Mine are all temperament tested and are top end of the aggression scale. They are well trained and trained in protection etc. We train them every Monday with a protection trainer. Obedience is key too them, then onto different situations they may find themselves from intruders.

Young Jack being put through his paces. These dogs need to no right from wrong from the beginning.


They have always had the guard trait imo as they guard the flock from bears and wolves etc. In the wrong hands this breed could be ruined. I have a good friend in Russia who sources dogs for me.

Hi and welcome from Mid Wales :wave: I hope that you manage to find somewhere soon. I must admit that I was thinking of buying one last year, but was absoloutely smitten with a other breed (incidently another guard dog  origionating in eastern europe). Theyre beauts but I am sorry to say that I would never buy them. :(
