Can anyone recommend a simple camera system for the shed at birthing time?
I want to get one for my mum as a birthday present and don't know where to begin.
The shed is maybe fifty yards from the house. Was thinking one than connects up to her mobile phone so she can check without getting out of bed every two hours!
Don't have an endless budget either  .
Would prefer recommendations from people who have one already as I looked on eBay and was confused.com.

Do you have mains power in the shed? If so, some baby monitors are fab.

Only if we run an extension lead....but her hearing isn't great!!

Most cameras need a power source of some sort.

I have a little camera that runs on a battery, but i wouldn't rely on it, transmit/receiver isn't great quality, and I'd be worried battery would give up on the night it was needed.
I got a baby monitor (only sound), on free cycle but not tried it yet.
Our barn doesn't let a signal through easily, may be worth checking your mobile or a cordless phone works in there before investing in a radio wave monitor?

I have a foaling camera kit for watching the ewes which I bought from spycamera. it has night vision and audio and is designed to be weather resistant. It requires a power source for the camera and the antenna and transmits wirelessly to a portable tv in the house.


It's on its 3rd year now so I'm very happy with it.

We got some - still have to go and check the shed the same as mind. 
Just useful to have on the TV in-between.

We ran bnc cables - all the wireless ones we tried would not penetrate the huge walls - they were obviously made for security cameras in a barrat house.

Buddy how far is it from the camera to your house?  We have about 100m with a wall in the way.

It's probably 25/30 metres from the house, which has big thick Welsh walls.
I think it's probably  to far for baby monitors to work well.

It manages to transmit into the house through external and internal walls but you could put the ariel on an outside window sill or screw a metal plate on the wall and use its magnetic base to anchor it. It has a 400m range. I dont use the audio tbh.


The pre sales and aftersales help is brilliant but if you think you might want more cameras in the future you may need to start with a different kit that you can add to. Give the a call and chat through your requirements.


When you are not lambing you can always resite the camera and use it for observing nature, predators or security.


The wet weather this year caused moisture inside the camera housing which was fixed by bringing it in and wiping it out, drying it with heat and adding a few silicon beads. In future I might bring it in over winter.

Ended up going with the spy camera Foaling kit. We have set it up today and are really pleased so far

We got the spy catcher fowling kit too. It works really well much nicer having a cup of tea in bed at 6am watching sheep cam.  Last night was very foggy and that meant a white out as the light bounced off the fog so I got up at 3 am to take a look so a reminder of how hard it is without one.  Thanks Buffy for the recommendation.
