We are sadly looking to rehome our small herd of alpacas, as we don't have our own land and it's getting too expensive to hire grazing (we're in Berwickshire in the Eastern Borders, which is very 'horsey'!).  I realise that it looks like I'm posting in the wrong forum, but along the way, we also managed to adopt some angora goats, so we're now looking for homes for them, too.  There are two bucks and a wether, all aged six come March, and all very, very friendly; although only one of the bucks is of breeding quality. They're very easy to manage, although they do need very regular foot trimming and twice yearly shearing, and produce masses (5kg plus per beastie) of lovely shiny fleece. They're free to a good home, so please let us know if anyone has room for them, or any other suggestions.

Assuming they're not registered, do you have any info about their parentage.
Is there a local angora breeder or goat club,
perhaps contact the secretary of BAGS http://www.angoragoats-mohair.org.uk/

At six years old their fleeces will be getting courser and not of huge value.  They'd make good rugs and stews if that's an acceptable option for you.

Hi - many thanks for the reply.  They're registered and we have full pedigrees for them.  We're not averse to the rugs and stews option.  Do you have any suggestions as to how we go about the rug bit of that?

At their age -  if not you, someone else may well go for the stew option, and with possibly less ethical methods too... especially if you advertise them as ftgh....

Sorry for the delay.
Lots of posts on here about salting and tanning skins.
You'd need a form from AH and check with your abattoir.

I was going to try one last year but they ripped the skin taking it off so haven't done any yet.
