Waiting
« on: November 17, 2015, 07:39:50 pm »
Am waiting for my first ever half lamb from a local supplier. Its grass fed but also dry aged too.

Not really a big thing in the scheme of things, but I am excited to try the difference from supermarket lamb.
I am not currently able to raise my own so this is the first step on the journey I guess :)

Hi We now have our own eggs lamb goats milk veg honey and soft fruit.  Its fantastic and tastes so much better that anything from a supermarket. However the thing that has struck us over the last couple of years is just how cosmetic everything is when you buy it. Quite a learning curve in some respects but mucky knobbly potatoes taste far better than bought. Enjoy the lamb

I have never understood why something we eat has to look like it came out of a spot the difference book. We are eating it not keeping it forever as a perfect specimen!

The two lambs I kept from this years lambing are very small, so I have bought half a lamb from a local farm.  The taste of this lamb is far superior to the supermarket lamb, and also mine was considerably cheaper.  OK it came in a big plastic bag, and I had to bag it up for the freezer, but that was no issue.  I am sure you will enjoy yours!!

Sounds good! I haven't been able to have any lambs killed this year, due to lack of ram lambs, bad lambing and the abbatoir is fully booked now. I do have one nearly finished and a ewe going with him too, but seeing as neil is fully booked I think it will be Jan before any lamb for us, sooo annoyed as well. >:(

Home grown meat is so much tastier. I love my goat meat. Goat milk from a supermarket tastes nothing like the real thing either. I have no idea what they do to it but it doesn't taste like it comes from a goat.

I think its just because you lose that personal touch the moment you aim for amounts that are enough for supermarkets.

I paid £90 for my half lamb but I am not on the mainland.

First tasting tomorrow :) Got some amazing chump chops I'm eyeing up :D
