Abattoir in Dorset
« on: October 25, 2015, 10:35:58 pm »
So the time has come to send one of My Herdwicks to the freezer...

I'm looking for a local abattoir in Dorset who will take a single animal and process it, ideally with the butchery as well - does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Robin

I always used Sturminster Newton abattoir, they were excelent. Tell them your friend in child Okeford recommended them... sometimes they are funny with new ppl. If not I believe the butcher on six penny handly will do a single lamb but is much more expensive! Good luck!

Stur N is now owned by ABP and doesn't do private kill
Depends where you are in Dorset----Wincanton, Sixpenny, Holnest (Sherbourne) are in the north----there are more to the south

Mine have just gone in this morning to Clarkes in Sixpenny Handley - only the second  year we have done it but last year was great. C&S Meats at Sherborne do private  kill. We use Normans in bridport for our commercial pork - not sure if they do private kill but they can send back to butchers.

I can recommend Holnest , I have taken small numbers of lambs there for 4 years now. Nice place, lambs walk into the holding pens quite happily ,if that's the right word , never been rushed. Have also used their butchery and they did what I asked. Sturminster is a couple of miles for me but as said before they do not do private kills anymore. ????????
