If you mean by fostering looking after dogs and whelping the bitches and rearing the pups for the rescue society then yes I do.

Yes unfortunately I am still in Melton, God alone knows when I'm moving.

Jackie, am I right in thinking that these bitches are in whelp when they are rescued and you look after them till the pups arrive?

LOl yes it did look as though I meant that the rescue was breeding them. They arent! 

 It is those bitches who come to the rescue when pregnant. I look after the bitch throughout her pregnancy, whelp her and look after both Mum and babies. Mum goes to a new home when the pups are about 5 weeks and I keep the pups for a further 3 weeks then help find them a home. Last time I got several pups placed in France for the French guide dogs assoc as they were lab golden crosses.

I pay for all the food for mum and babies as further help and absolutely love doing it.

What a great idea, Jackie.  I hadn't even thought about the aspect of in whelp bitches being rescued.  Maybe in the back of my mind I maybe thought they were just spayed but I know vets hate doing that if the bitch is in whelp so should have thought about that.  Well done!

Do you do yours through a kennles? or independantly

Through a breed rescue society and the animals are in my home.

The same as us then, only we don't take on any heavily pregnant bitches as we have a couple of unrealiable dogs

When I finally move Ill be able to help the rescue much more as we have loads of kennels on site.

Im certainly going to adopt a couple of oldies that no one else  wants as they have a charm all of their own.

This week I will contact the Lincolnshire Golden retriever rescue as previously I helped the Bedfordshire golden rescue but will be too far away in my new home for the Bedforshire one.

Hi there,

I've been fostering for a local rescue for quite a while now as well. We mostly have younger dogs, usually those unsold by breeders that have lived all their young lives in barns etc resulting in them being terrified, totally untrained and unsocialised. Also fostered a couple of Mum's and pups, this time last year we had a pregnant collie who had 12 pups, we kept 1 and all the others went to lovely homes all over the country. We meet up regularly with the family that adopted the mum as well as several of the pups that live local. But all the new families keep in touch via our own group on facebook and we have just had the pups 1yr birthday get together where 9 of us managed to make it, coming from Essex, Wales, Manchester, Dorset.

Our latest dog was with us for 2weeks as a foster, but is now officially ours

Touchwood, how nice to Foster dogs and it sounds you are doing a great job, I too love GSD's, had one some years ago and loved her dearly, sadly she ended up with poor hips and had to be put to sleep as her back end went!. We had a litter of 11 Labradors in December, 9 survived and most I am in contact with and hope to get an anniversary walk with them too, great idea!!
