I found its best to check with your vets. Mine know what the local likelihood is of your sheep needing it.

If it is a wet winter, yes I do give another dose of Fasinex in January/February time.

So are you varying your choice at all or just tipping Fasinex down them? Why not use a different product?

What else are you using that kills all three stages of fluke?

You don't need a product that kills all stages of fluke at all times. In the Autumn - yes. How many sheep die of acute fluke with you in Feb? You are putting simply huge selection pressure for Triclabendazole resistance on the fluke population by not varying it.

It is analogous to saying I use Zolvix all the time because it kills all worms.

Actually it is on advice from my vet, and only in wet (and not too cold) winters. NADIS website also states to use Triclabendazole in October and January.... and it has worked for me so far.

So your sheep enterprise is wholly reliant on the continued efficacy of a single product. I've seen wet sheep land abandoned due to T. resistance and a lot of sheep die. Farms in these areas now have to manage without T. at all, does a "clear out" of potential T. resistant fluke with an alternative product make no sense to you at all?

Sorry PL must have missed the trump card - I am wrong and my ulterior motives/vested interests are laid bare - total reliance on a single product is a really good idea and we shouldn't even consider using the others.

As an aside - anyone lost cattle to acute fluke? Guessing not many. How many still give all their cattle fasinex anyway at all times of year? Why?

PL - pup has been named "Bryn Unig" (Du - Black so Brindle Bryn - Unig just the one)

Flukiver (Closantel).  Use the triclabendazole in autumn-Jan, and use closantel in late winter / spring (/ summer).

Avoid combination products unless you know that you have a need to worm as well at the time.

There is a short video made by the Flukiver manufacturers that details the lifecycle and what products to use when and why ... Michaela Strachan  .. let me find the link ....
