1 of my 2 week old piglets has started limping. On further inspection he is missing half of the nail on his front trotter and this half is much bigger than the other side. I've injected him 2 days running with duphapen strep and i sprayed the foot with a good dose of sheep foot and master purple spray. He is not limping today but the foot doesn't look any less swollen. He's running around well and eating fine and isn't any smaller than the others in his litter. Has anyone ever had this problem, will he grow a new hoof? Am i doing the right thing? Your advice is appreciated.

I would guess at an infection so may need it lanced and dressed but whether that's right for pigs or not I haven't a clue.  I suppose it might go down of its own accord in time, sounds like the treatment is right, but might need specific antibiotics?  I can only spedak about dogs - I'd give it till Thursday morning then see the Vet if no better.

If he's not limping that's a good sign and it sounds like he's past the worst. Keep an eye on it and clean the trotter if you can a couple of times a day - warm water and Dettol seems to be fine - and have a smell to make sure there's no infection. The swelling will go down in a few days and the piglet should be none the worse and the "nail" should grow back.

Thanks for the replies. The foot looks a little less swollen today and he's certainly charging around and eating well.
