I posted this story on a RCCForums The story true by the way went like this.David and Annie came over one Saturday and she said the grand kids had been to a friends where they had chickens and fresh eggs they want some .She thrust the Ascotts 2009 Catalogue and said what do you think to this and showed me the Grovenor PY56/8 at £450 + £40 del; some £500 Hell Dave has she run into money ? Leave it to me for a week or two.So I called at the Estates Farm office and said wheres Carl She rang his mobile and I went to see him.Have you any pallats I can have Carl Yes there is undreds up at Pim in the old drier help yersen. So with a 4lb hammer I punched the nails in and filled the back of Su full.Including some long ones that some ducting had come on and tied on Su's roof
I went home and tided them up and next day went to Wiz at Wragby for some meat on the way back I called at Church Farm and said to my pal You know when you re roofed the field stable did you have any felt left over Yes do you want a bit I told him what we were about and he said There is a few bits of roll end of rabbit wire you can have as well. There you go all the makings nearly. When I get home I go in the work shop an set the saw for 3/8" depth of cut an opposing square cut to make a overlapping board.Next day we went to the big Orange shed and bought a couple of nails and staples 4 hinges and a packet of screws cost £ 6 or so So I cut some of the thick Pallat wood into sort of size 2" x 21/2" and commenced operations Near enough a copy of a Grovenor  So I rang Sixhills and suggested They come over at the week end and pick it up.Whooo Dad its lovely Yes it will be when David has painted it with a few coats of wood protect. How much do I owe you Nowt I can stand £6/7 can't I making you a saving of some £500 not bad recycling is it Annie ;D ;D :farmer:

We make our duck huts from pallets, we just raise them up off the ground on legs, all you need, they dont know how much you spend ::). When we made a posh chook hut from spare wood I asked my OH to make the fancy air holes as in an expensive brand has, looks just the same when painted. Hermit

Hello Karen I dont know about this Lass If we go to CVF those huge huts are all air conditioned I am not quite sure but I think to 70F If its made of pallats keep the warm in and the cold out.I'm sure enough air would get in. Until summer when they may need a cool ?

I agree the gap in the pallets makes a good insulation gap, they just need lining for ease of cleaning. As we are not supposed to get rats up here we just use roofing felt and any boards we have. The floors we just chicken wire, the pallet wood is wide enough for them to walk on comfy and the majority of the poop falls through the gaps.Karen.

Mornin all Hermit just a little bit I haven't told you the feeder floors in the CVF huts are some 20 foot wide and end to end of the shed some 300 ft long.with vibrated ad lib feed and suspended drinkers. The floor where the ducks feed is made of
20m/m or so PVC coated weld mesh.I say 20m/m it may be 1" squares I've not bothered to measure it.It is supported across the span and is afoot above the concrete huge scrapers clean the floors under the feeders and the resultant slurry drops into a pit from where it is pumped into a pasfier ditch and spun round and round and O2 added to increase the bacteria ppm to digest the slurry The out fall pipe is constantly auto monitored with clocked time samplers by AWA for cleanliness before it can get into the Ancholme River.
