Plants for chicken run
« on: July 11, 2015, 07:25:04 am »
Hi all,

The chicken run is starting to look a brown wasteland now and I would like to put some plants in there to give them something to peck at and maybe even offer some shade.

We have a poly tunnel so I can keep producing plants as they get pecked bare etc, so I am wondering what plants people suggest.

I have looked at the poisonous to chickens list so know not what to put in there, im now after some suggestions on the plants that they would enjoy and that would enrich their surroundings.

Thanks in advance  ;)

Mine like clover a lot. Mostly there's White clover here, but you could grow red clover in pots as it can get to be a big plant.

Perpetual spinach will also do well in big pots.

Chickens love dappled shade so consider some shrubs that they can get in under. Mine seem to love mucking around under the willow and cherry trees and I often see them picking off willow leaves. You could even build them one of those willow maze things. Bet they would love that. Got me thinking now......
