Collecting sheep en route to abattoir?
« on: June 22, 2015, 12:46:53 pm »
Hi all- I am taking some of my sheep to slaughter in a few weeks and want to collect some for a friend en route and deliver them also to the abattoir. Is that within the rules? he could travel with me if that is needed.
Thanks  :sheep:

Yes, I think so. It might trigger a standstill on your friends property (movements off other than to slaughter).
Easiest thing to do is to phone your local animal health peeps and they will confirm :).

I've loaded my own sheep and then collected a neighbour's pigs and paper work and gone onto the abattoir no problem.

I'm sure I've read somewhere it's OK if loaded well away from other stock, possibly on a concrete area? it is somewhere on Defra's website on movements.

Well the hauliers almost always pick up form more than one farm, so can't really see it is a) not legal and b) would even cause a standstill. After all, all animals go directly to slaughter and the ones already on the trailer will not get off (and therefore not enter the other farm).... You can do two different movement forms anyway, just have the same transporter, easy.
