Just a quick question.  If you have a small piece of land, say an acre or two and you have a couple of pigs to grow on  to slaughter weight, what do you do about all the poop? How quickly does it break down quickly, or do you have to make arrangements to dispose of it?

As long as your pigs are wormed you can leave it and chain harrow to distribute the "goodness" when the pigs go, or you can pick up each day and put it on the compost heap and spread it when they go. Don't waste it though, manure is the very essential thing to keep your land in good heart.

Thanks, DevonLady, I was just worried about the amount that might be generated.  I suppose it might depend on how close our nearest neighbours might be as well!

With our original 2 Tamworth weaners that we kept in the woods we just left everything there when they went off and it all disappeared by the time the next batch turned up maybe 6 months later.

It's a bit different now that we've got 4 pigs this time and it builds up quite quickly so every now and then we're collecting it up and dumping it on one of the compost heaps

As they walk around on it they'll squash it down anyway.  You can reckon that, bulk-wise, around 40% of what goes in will come out, depending on whether or not you give them vegetables as well as pelletted feed.
