Replacing Cockerills
« on: February 17, 2010, 03:36:43 pm »
Now that I have chicks who will be out in the next few weeks and eventually free-ranging with their mothers and 2 very handsome fathers I assume I'm going to have to swap my cockerills for some who are unrelated. Some people have said that its OK for the cockerills to cover their daughters and there will be no abnormalities, that its different for chickens etc. etc. But I'm still not sure about the ethics...

Whenever I look at fertile eggs for sale they say "from unrelated parents" or from "Hens running with unrelated cockerills"

Maybe someone has a pair of Maran cockerills they also need to swap? It'll be sad to see Luke and Dave (originally Lucille and Davina) go to anywhere except a good home with their own hareem to take care of...

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
