Small holding in the Midlands we can visit
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:47:47 pm »
Hi,

We are currently in the process of getting our flat in Birmingham ready to sell and looking to move into rented accommodation whilst we find a 5 hectare plot to start on the F2F journey to small holdership. We're going to be looking for lots of help along the way and this forum seems to have a wealth of information and full of helpful users.

Is there anyone in the Midlands area with a small holding which we could visit and help out on to give us some experience and an idea of what we are letting us in for.

Thanks,
Tom

I'm in Telford but only have a very small area - just a large garden but I grow fruit trees and veg and have my goats here. You're welcome to visit.

We're in Worcestershire - very small smallholding though so maybe not much use.  Approx 4 acres and we keep goats, sheep, chickens... plum orchard and grow some veg.
We make plum wine, cordials and goat's milk soap as well as selling eggs etc at gate, give me a shout if you are in the area  :)

We're heading to Hereford this weekend so pass through a large chunk of Worcestershire, would we be ok to stop by either Saturday afternoon or Sunday lunchtime?

I have a pure Saanen who should be in kid, a Saanen x Boer who is going for slaughter and her twins daughters (mated with a Saanen), one of which will be going with her.

Hi,
There are 2 side by  side on the A449 just outside Stourport, 1 is open to the public like a petting farm the other is a proper smallholding (Kate at Black Pig) is lovely if your nice she'll have all the time in the world for you, she sells eggs and meat, take your wellies. 100 metres from the Mitre Oak pub.

We're in Powys - Mid-Wales. It's not too far from the Midlands and would be happy to show you around. PM me if  you are interested… but there are masses of places round Hereford way so that it probably a better bet. We have ten acres here - sheep, chickens, fruit, veg and woodland etc.
We do the best we can with the information we have

Thanks for having us, really appreciated being shown around your piece of the good life, it has given us food for thought and made us keener than ever. We were very taken by the bottle fed lambs and Nimble, very sweet.

Will keep in touch and am sure we'll be ordering more soap before long :-)

Offer accepted on the flat, not long now until we have the funds to go land shopping, spoken to Kate at black pig, will arrange to go and visit soon.

All very exciting and scary, moving from a pipe dream closer to reality, thanks for all the support although more will be required as we get further down the line.
