Weedkilling in gravel
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:23:47 am »
What is the best way of keeping a gravel drive clear of weeds?  In the past I have used a weedkiller that prevents regrowth for 6 months which is ideal but I could only buy it in small sachets and had a relatively large area to do.

Rock salt is supposed to be good but not very pet friendly as it can cause problems, vinegar is also supposed to be good and is usually cheap .. I think you put it on neat :)

Nope - just do a weed at a time - I have a green carpet!  It would take me months of 24/7 work!

Sulphamate off eBay .
it is a  compost activator , it just happens if you water it on green matter it kills it *& turns it into compost material.  So make sure that the stuff you want " composting " is not in an area of crop and that it will not leach into veg beds etc or streams
I "composted in situation ", about 10 sq mtr of horsetail during a dry period , after five weeks it was dead , that's over 14 months ago with no regrowth.

Another area I " composted " at the same time now has broad beans growing in it .
Apparently after a four or  months of being sprayed on it it turns into plant friendly nitrogen .
It is not licenced as a weed brush or stump killer, its only available as  " compost activator " .

 Happy composting
Strong belief , triggers the mind to find the way ... Dyslexia just makes it that bit more amusing & interesting

I hope so!  They're my weed killers too!   :innocent: But it takes about 5 weeks to kill weeds off, and my hens won't be out much before that - fence being built to keep dogs away from them

Cloddoper, I have just looked it up but don't know how much to buy. Do you dilute it and if so whats the ratio?
thanks
