I was outside last night at about 9:30, and saw something very unusual: a very bright streak of white / blue light a bit like a firework falling downwards. It also wiggled a bit, rather than move in a completely straight line.
 
It probably only lasted a second, and my first thought was shooting star. However, this looked really close - only about 40 metres away, and about twice the height of the tree tops.
 
Any ideas folks?

We're a long way from any neighbours who might be letting off fireworks, and also I didn't see or hear anything else.

Having been there on a Friday night, I'm inclined to agree with you Fleecewife.  However, on reflection I think that might have more to do with a) drunk people and b) Cumbernauld Airport being just over the hill!


Definitely not the space station Doganjo. This was like you might see a spark coming out of a bonfire, sort of like a light travelling in a squiggly line that lasted for about a second and then went out. However, it was bright white / blue, and went downwards towards the earth, and looked as though it was only about twice as high up as the trees.


I think if the space station had gotten that close, I'd have known about it  [size=78%].[/size]


BTW, It also set the peacocks off, so if I imagined it, so did they!

Might it have been a helicopter landing.  I think they switch their downwards lights on and it would appear to be stationary as it would be hovering ready to descend.

Now you come to mention it Annie, I've been seeing men in white coats all day today..... but then my office is just across from the R&D lab 
 
 
Definitely not a helicopter or similar.  Really more like a small firework.
 
Perhaps if a very high helicopter had dropped a sparkler??

All joking aside (if that's possible  ) I have seen three times now a strange light in the sky over our land. Imagine a cycle light, about that size, hovering. I tried to explain it a sister who, sounding just like my mother, said, nonsense, it's a star. But a star twinkles and is always there, this light is constant and occasional. It's a helicopter hovering. But they make a noise and this is silent in a silent landscape. After half to one hour it moves, silently toward the south east and disappears.
