poorley chicken again
« on: April 12, 2015, 07:48:35 pm »
Never had a chicken before was given this one as the other 25 were killed by Fox so she was the only survivor ! I have 2 Aylesbury ducks
Separated chicken from ducks after 1 week they didn't take to her a bit nasty. Blanche the chicken also has only 1 eye due to the Fox attack. So she started to lay eggs seemed happy became ill did the oil treatment. Purchased special pick me up to add to her water, bathed her she perked up. Today not eating not drinking seems bright but swirty poo I thought a chicken would be easy to keep. Brought chicken pellets other feed with shell in I just don't understand what's going on, plenty of fresh water? Please help.

Chucks need company of their own kind so maybe shes a bit depressed  ? Animals do get down, especially after a trauma  like fox attack. Hasnt anyone got a chuck u could have ? What was the 'oil treatment' you spoke about ?.
Make her a scrambled egg, mine love it as a treat. The protein will do her good.
They do get squirty poo from time to time as they pick up stuff. Your doing your best by her, dont  feel bad
You can use a syringe  to get water into her mouth, little at a time allowing her to swallow.

She can see my ducks through wire fencing they are right next to her. The oil I syringed and massaged her gently was not sick so no food stuck .   I did notice her scratching and while I sat with her saw 2 white things near her mouth? Tiny little things smaller than a grain of rice? Good idea I will try and give her water through syringe. Her poo stunk and looked green.
I'm so attached to her already!

I agree she needs chicken friends. I have chickens and ducks together, they get on fine but don't hang out together and stay with their own kind. She is probably feeling vulnerable being on her own especially after the trauma of the attack which isn't helping her recovery

The little white things are lice. You can get louse powder for chucks, wouldnt think it was that puttng her off her food ?
Not the same as snugglin up with your  buddies on your perch to keep warm, like she would have been used to doing when roosting . :chook:
