Hi, hope someone can clarify a few things for me before I get bogged down trying to figure it out elsewhere.

If I rent a field for grazing and it hasn't got a holding number is it the owner who has to obtain one, and if so who does the movement docs - me as receiving and departing keeper or not?

If I rent a field which has got a holding no who does the movement docs?

Think I might have just confused myself let alone anyone reading...

I would say that regardless of field ownership if the animals are yours then the movement docs are your responsibility.

Thanks, I just didn't want to find that I had to go chasing the field owner to sign every time I move sheep.

The owner or keeper of the sheep fills in all paperwork.  If the land you rent does not have a holding number you need to get a holding number for it yourself as land you rent.

Even if the land you rent has a holding # you can still get another holding number for your animals on the same premises

I rent land on one farm where the landowner has a holding # for his cattle, I have a different holding # for my sheep and a pig rearer has another holding # for his pig operation

If it's less than 5 miles from your holding, you can attach the land to your holding number through the Rural Payments Agency.  It did take me quite a few phone calls as the first person I spoke to didn't know anything about it and referred me to someone else.  I think I was on phone call number 6 before I finally found someone who knew what I was talking about!
