I'm putting this here and not in growing as it sort of spans across more than one category - please move if this isn't the right place for it :)

I've had an idea that it might be an idea to start a sort of holistic planting area for as and when problems crop up, inspired by someone with an injured ewe not being sure if they will be able to find some comfrey. I don't plan to use it instead of medicines for us or the animals, but in conjunction with - I am a firm believer of using things that don't do harm but may also help :)

Does anyone do this? Any recommendations for useful things to grow that are species specific as well as useful for humans and animals?
So far I have aloe, arnica, burdock,  cayenne, camomile, comfrey, dandelion, fenugreek, feverfew, garlic, ginger, lavender, licorice, marigold, marsh mallow, milk thistle, peppermint, rosemary, sage, thyme and valerian. I have an idea I'd also like to leave a large area of ivy

Willow is popular with a lot of animals and has salicylate (aspirin) in it.

Great idea! This used to be done commonly in horse paddocks. I found this document which looks interetsing www.alternativevet.org/Beneficial%20Plants%20WS019-07.pdf
Some beneficial plants and herbs are not what we would commonly think of as 'herbs' such as yarrow, nettles and plantain.
