Poly tunnels, mesh slats or straw?
« on: March 10, 2015, 11:22:26 pm »
I am finished lambing and was using a shed with mesh but next year i may need more room so it got me thinking about poly tunnels, but, I hate the thought of bedding constantly. Anyone have mesh slats in poly tunnel? Or does anyone know if this would work? I guess it would be hard to drain off the water and urine and the mesh on blocks would leave them too close to the roof?

I use good straw on a hard packed dirt floor.  Lambing pens are mucked out thoroughly and lime used to disinfect in between occupants.  I have never had a problem with infection.  Do you have the ewes and lambs standing on the mesh?

No sorry i mean that I have pregnant sheep on mesh on blocks and bring them to straw bedded lambing pens when they lamb. Just wondering would this work on a larger scale in a polytunnel . Haven't seen any pictures of mesh in a tunnel
